The Unsung Heroes of Fall Transition Dressing

Depending on where you’re located, you may have noticed a chill in the air signaling impending sweater weather, crunchy leaves, and gourds galore. For some people (me, definitely me), cooler temps signal the dreaded “great transition” wherein my apartment becomes uninhabitable whilst I pull out suitcases to switch out crop tops and sandals for chunky knits and boots.

While those heavy space-taking pieces are crucial for surviving a northeast winter, we’re here to shout out the unsung heroes of the summer-to-fall transition; the little guys that extend the wear of your summer slip-dress straight through winter and help delay the official switch just a little bit longer. These pieces add a bit of practical fun to your look by adding color and warmth on even the iciest days.

Stylish Socks

Socks have come a long way since their status as your least favorite holiday gift. They’ve been adopted by the fashion set as a bonafide must-have accessory, often featuring cool designs, sparkly details, and bold colors while still serving their original purpose- keeping those tootsies warm.

Layering Sweaters

Usually the first piece we reach for when temperatures drop, a good cardigan looks great over a dress, on a t-shirt, or even buttoned up and worn on it’s own. It also serves as a great alternative when you’re looking for something a little softer than a moto jacket, plus it’s easy to wear under a coat when the time comes. A roomy v-neck pullover in a lighter knit is also a must for fall layering. You know those whiplash weather days that start hot and end cold and you have no idea how to dress? This flattering style is easy to roll into your bag at the start of the day and makes a great layer for chilly evenings.

Tissue Turtlenecks

Who knew such a simple basic could be so unbelievably chic? There’s just something about the way this beloved staple elongates the neck and frames the face, plus it looks super fashion-forward when layered under anything from a cami, to a button up, to a slip dress. Thanks to the turtleneck, there’s no need to stow away all your summer favorites.
